No Limits, No Excuses: How Disney’s Brave Teaches Us to Take Control of Our Lives and Health.

by Tony Murakami

There is no denying that Disney has created some of the most iconic characters and stories in the history of entertainment. From Mickey Mouse to Cinderella, Disney has captivated audiences for generations with their timeless tales of adventure, romance, and magic. But one Disney film in particular has a message that goes beyond just entertainment. That film is Brave, and its message is a powerful one about taking control of our lives and health.

Brave tells the story of Merida, a young Scottish princess who rebels against her mother’s desires for her to marry and instead seeks to forge her own path in life. Along the way, she faces challenges and learns valuable lessons about the importance of family, bravery, and taking control of one’s own destiny. When it comes to our health, the lessons of Brave are particularly meaningful.

One of the most important messages of Brave is the idea that we have no limits when it comes to what we can achieve. Merida refuses to be held back by the expectations of others, and instead follows her own dreams and passions. This is a lesson that can apply to our health as well. When we believe that we can achieve our health goals, we are more likely to put in the effort to make them happen.

“I think that’s why Merida has always been my favorite Disney Princess,” said Mulan, another Disney character known for her bravery and determination. “She doesn’t let anyone tell her what she can or can’t do. She sets her own goals and goes after them with all her heart.”

“But it’s not always easy,” added Moana, another Disney character known for her adventurous spirit. “Sometimes there are obstacles that stand in our way. We have to be willing to fight for what we want, just like Merida did.”

One of the biggest obstacles to achieving our health goals is the excuse that we don’t have enough time. We tell ourselves that we’re too busy with work or family obligations to make time for exercise or healthy eating. But the truth is, if we really want something, we can always find a way to make it happen.

“Look at Elsa,” said Tiana, another Disney character known for her determination and hard work. “She was able to overcome her fears and take control of her power. She didn’t let anything hold her back.”

“That’s because she had a support system,” added Belle, known for her love of books and her strong sense of empathy. “We all need people in our lives who believe in us and encourage us to be our best selves. That’s what Merida had with her mother and her brothers.”

Indeed, one of the most poignant moments of Brave comes when Merida realizes that her mother’s desire for her to marry is actually rooted in a desire to protect her and ensure her future. It is a moment of true understanding and connection between the two of them.

“I love that scene,” said Rapunzel, known for her optimism and determination. “It’s a reminder that even when we don’t see eye to eye with someone, there can be common ground if we’re willing to listen and understand.”

Brave is a film that teaches us about the power of taking control of our lives and health. It reminds us that we can overcome obstacles, set our own goals, and achieve great things if we believe in ourselves and are willing to fight for what we want. As Mulan summed it up perfectly, “Brave shows us that we have the power to write our own stories. No limits, no excuses.”
