Growing Up with Ariel: How to Develop Emotional Maturity in Life

Growing up can be challenging, especially when it comes to emotional development. While some people tend to be naturally emotional, others struggle to manage their feelings. In Disney movies, we can find examples of characters that embody different emotional maturity levels. Ariel, from The Little Mermaid, is an interesting character to look at when it comes to emotional development. In this article, we will explore how to grow up with Ariel, and learn some emotional maturity tips from her, and other Disney characters.

Ariel is a mermaid princess who is curious about the human world. She falls in love with a human prince, and decides to trade her voice to become human and be with him. Her father, King Triton, disapproves of her decision and destroys her statue collection. Ariel feels betrayed and misunderstood by her father, but she learns from her experience and gains emotional maturity throughout the movie.

In the beginning, Ariel is a naive teenager who thinks that love is all about physical attraction. She daydreams about being part of the human world and being with Prince Eric. She sings “Part of Your World,” expressing her desire to explore new things and be free. However, Ariel’s emotional immaturity is evident when she disobeys her father’s orders, goes to the surface, and risks her life. She also makes a deal with Ursula, the sea witch, without fully understanding the consequences.

Sebastian, Ariel’s crab friend, represents emotional wisdom. He tries to warn Ariel about the danger of going after her dreams without thinking things through. In a conversation between Ariel and Sebastian, Ariel says, “I just don’t see how a world that makes such wonderful things could be bad.” Sebastian replies, “Look at it this way, in every ocean, there’s a big fish. He eats the little fish.” Sebastian is trying to make Ariel realize that the human world is not as innocent as she thinks it is.

Another character that teaches Ariel about emotional maturity is Prince Eric. When Ariel becomes human, she cannot speak, so she has to communicate with gestures and expressions. Eric is charmed by Ariel’s innocence and playfulness, but he also respects her boundaries. He does not pressure her to talk or do anything she is uncomfortable with. He takes her on romantic dates, shows her kindness, and builds a friendship with her.

Ariel learns about the importance of communication and trust in a relationship. She also learns about the dangers of judging someone by their appearance. When Ursula turns into a beautiful human named Vanessa and tries to seduce Eric, he almost falls for her fake charms. Ariel has to use her emotional intelligence to save Eric from Ursula’s grasp. She sings “Kiss the Girl” to encourage Eric to kiss her and break Ursula’s spell. This shows that Ariel has developed her emotional maturity, and she is taking action to protect the person she loves.

Overall, Ariel’s journey from a naive mermaid to an emotionally mature human is a great lesson for us all. Here are some tips we can learn from Ariel and other Disney characters:

– Listen to advice from wise and experienced people. They can save you from making mistakes.
– Think about the consequences of your actions before making a decision.
– Don’t judge someone by their appearance. Get to know them for who they are.
– Communicate openly and honestly in relationships. Trust is essential.
– Don’t be afraid to take action to protect yourself and the people you love.

Remember, emotional maturity is not something you can learn overnight. It takes time, experience, and reflection. However, with the help of Disney characters like Ariel, we can find inspiration to grow and become emotionally mature adults.
Disney’s The Little Mermaid provides lessons on emotional development through the character of Ariel. Key takeaways include listening to advice, considering decisions’ consequences, not judging based on appearance, open communication in relationships, and taking action to protect loved ones. Emulating the character’s journey can inspire personal growth.
