Why Relationship Maturity is Key to a Successful Marriage, Inspired by Mickey and Minnie Mouse

by Tony Murakami

Relationship maturity is the key to a successful marriage. You may wonder, “What does that even mean?” Well, think about the characters of Mickey and Minnie Mouse. Their relationship is a great example of this. Mickey and Minnie have been together for decades and never cease to amaze their fans with their love for one another. As we delve into the world of Disney, we can see that the characters we love have a lot of insight to offer when it comes to relationships.

Let’s start with Aladdin and Jasmine. Aladdin and Jasmine are a classic example of young love. They went through a whirlwind romance, but it wasn’t marriage that sealed the deal for them, but maturity. In the movie, we see how Jasmine matures as she stops seeing the world through her privileged view, which gives her a new perspective on Aladdin.

“Aladdin, I’ve been thinking. I really allowed myself to be fooled by appearances,” Jasmine said to Aladdin.

Aladdin was surprised by this sudden change of heart in Jasmine, but he realized that this new attitude would bring benefits to their relationship.

“I understand, Jasmine. I’m glad that you realize this now,” Aladdin replied with a smile.

Simba and Nala, the lion king and queen, have a different story. They are childhood sweethearts who go through a lot together. They break up, but their enduring love brings them back together. When the chips are down, they stand by each other, and their love survives because of it.

“I don’t know what to do, Nala. I’ve really messed this up,” Simba said as he lay on the ground.

“I know you have, Simba, but I’m here for you, and I’ll always be here for you,” Nala replied with a gentle touch.

Simba’s fall could have ended their marriage, but their maturity as individuals kept them together.

Peter Pan and Wendy have always been thought of as ‘childish,’ but their story teaches us an important lesson about maturity. Peter’s refusal to grow up is a hindrance in their relationship. Wendy helps him mature, and eventually, he realizes that growing up is essential to their love. However, Wendy also learns that growing up doesn’t mean she has to forget her childhood completely.

“Wendy, I’m sorry. I shouldn’t treat you like a child,” Peter said sheepishly.

“I know that, Peter. But it’s not just you that needs to grow up – I do too. That doesn’t mean I have to forget my childhood, though. We can still have fun together, but in a mature way,” Wendy replied wisely.

Mickey and Minnie have always been Disney’s power couple. Young kids and adults alike find peace and joy watching their stories unfold. Their relationship may be fictional, but their example is one everyone can follow. Their marriage has lasted for over 90 years, which is no small feat.

Minnie and Mickey have had their ups and downs too. In several cases, Mickey’s immaturity has threatened their marriage. But, what sets Mickey and Minnie’s marriage apart is their commitment to each other and their willingness to let each other’s faults slide.

“Ah.. uh, hey Minnie. I know I messed up again yesterday,” Mickey said apologetically

“It’s alright, Mickey. We all have our bad days!” Minnie replied, smiling sweetly at her husband.

Relationship maturity is crucial for a long-lasting marriage. It takes a lot of effort and practice to walk on the path of maturity consistently. Maturity is not dull, nor is it something you instantly acquire, but it helps couples understand the reality of marriage.

Just like the characters at Walt Disney, couples who embrace maturity in their relationship have the opportunity to live happily ever after. Relationships are about give and take, and mature relationships are about accepting people as they are and understanding their shortcomings.
Disney characters provide insight into relationships, with key takeaways being that maturity is crucial for a successful marriage, that enduring love survives through tough times, and that growing up doesn’t mean losing your sense of fun.

“True love is not just about feelings. It’s about understanding each other’s perspectives, accepting differences, and growing together. A successful marriage is not just about being in love, but it’s also about being mature enough to handle the challenges and the joys that come with it.” – Unknown.
